Inventories
Basically this lets you know what you have to work with. Identifies species, sizes, and numbers of trees present. Intensity of inventory can vary depending on the purpose: from a very basic assessment, to an in depth analysis for a management plan, timber sale, or appraisal.
Timber Marking
Identifying the trees to be harvested by marking with paint. Harvesting is part of active management, ideally described in a management plan. When practical it is always best to mark the trees that you intend to harvest and sell. Mark high on the tree for the harvester to see, and low on the stump for accountability.
Timber Sales
A sequence of actions involved in selling standing trees. First trees to harvest need to be identified and measured. Timber sale announcements are sent to potential buyers listing the species and volume of wood for sale. Buyer is selected. Contract is signed. Harvest is monitored. Contract is satisfied and Timber Sale completed.
